SCI and DOJ report point to one thing, the buck stops with Murphy

Assembly GOP Leader John DiMaio

TRENTON, N.J. – Assembly Republican Leader John DiMaio said Gov. Phil Murphy needs to take responsibility after a State Commission of Investigation report released Tuesday exposed systemic failures at two state-run veterans homes early in the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We give the governor enormous executive powers during health emergencies and the federal government handed Murphy a ton of money to help fix big problems,” said DiMaio (R-Warren). “It’s a shame he did not put it to better use by correcting administrative problems at our veterans facilities and preventing deaths that could have been avoided.”

On Sept. 7, the U.S. Department of Justice released a scathing report detailing inadequate infection control and medical care during the pandemic at Menlo Park and Paramus veterans homes. The investigation found that the state provided and continues to provide “unconstitutionally deficient care” at the facilities.
