TRENTON, N.J. – In light of the nationwide phone outage Thursday, Assemblyman Christian Barranco says that cyber security is of paramount importance in safeguarding against disruptive incidents.

Tens of thousands of AT&T customers reported loss of home and cell phone, and internet starting at 3:30 a.m. EST. While it seemed most widespread in the southeast, the outage underscores the critical need for robust measures to protect against cyber threats here in New Jersey.

“Whether or not this was a cyberattack, we must harden and secure our telecommunications networks,” Barranco (R-Morris), a member of the Assembly Telecommunications committee, said.
