TRENTON, N.J. – Assembly Republicans explain how the cost of living increases under Gov. Phil Murphy are making more New Jersey residents low-income in the latest episode of “<Three” released Wednesday. Despite touting a ‘stronger and fairer New Jersey,’ 80% of the taxes Murphy has raised since taking office are regressive – meaning they impact poor and middle-class residents more than the wealthy.

Steven Szemple, a legislative analyst at the Assembly Republican Office, reveals Murphy’s tax and fee hikes have cost residents more than $5 billion dollars. That tax revenue, which the governor brags is improving the state’s credit rating, disproportionately hurts already struggling New Jersey families. The cost of living has increased by $17,500 since 2018, making more New Jerseyans eligible for federal section 8 housing.
