Hiding unemployment data, Murphy administration continuously lacks transparency

TRENTON, N.J. –  The state Department of Labor’s last press release concerning unemployment claims data was May 13. Since then, the department has been selectively tweeting the information every Thursday, except for yesterday. Replies were never very kind as people complained about how they couldn’t get the help they needed – contrary to statements by the labor commissioner during budget hearings.

“The lack of transparency is shameful, or as Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz coined – Democrats have become completely opaque,” said Assemblyman Brian Bergen (R-Morris). “The Murphy administration doesn’t frankly care about what anybody else cares about. They prove that every day that they withhold information from the public.”

Weekly federal advance statistics have been inaccurate throughout the pandemic, which the administration noted before they stopped reporting the data.
