TRENTON, N.J. – A resolution sponsored by Assemblyman Christopher DePhillips and Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso today passed the Assembly by a vote of 80-0.
“I was proud to see the Assembly unanimously support our frontline healthcare workers,” said DePhillips (R-Bergen). “The least we can do for these heroes, who are risking their lives every day, is to ensure they don’t return home from this battle to a mountain of federal student loan debt.”
The resolution, AR155, urges Congress to allow forgiveness of federal student loans for health care workers and first responders who have been involved in the Covid-19 response.
“I’ve personally seen the incredible efforts our healthcare workers and first responders have undertaken over the last two months,” said DiMaso (R-Monmouth) “They have sacrificed their safety, time with loved ones, and so much more as they fight this pandemic. I am thrilled that my colleagues in the Assembly can see how important it is to give back to these residents by asking Congress to provide student loan debt forgiveness.”
