DiMaso: Marijuana injustice bill is not will of the people

Serena DiMaso

TRENTON, N.J. – Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso strongly criticized Democrats passing controversial legislation on underage use and possession of marijuana.

“This legislation was not a bill to advance social justice or mental health; it is an attack on parenting and punishing our police officers more than individuals supplying drugs to minors,” said DiMaso (R-Monmouth). “An officer could go to jail or be fined as much as fifteen thousand for simply doing their job yet the fine for supplying children with drugs is only $250? There are parking tickets that cost more.”

“The people of New Jersey voted for adult-use marijuana; however, they didn’t vote for us to make it easier for children to access and use marijuana without consequence. Residents wouldn’t support these legal changes for alcohol, why would we then think this was acceptable for marijuana?”
