Committee approves Bramnick bill requiring auto insurers to disclose policy limits

Jon Bramnick

TRENTON, N.J. – Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick’s legislation requiring automobile insurers to disclose policy limits upon request by an attorney was advanced by the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee today.

“Victims in the state should understand early on that their compensation is based on policy limits. Under this bill, anyone injured in a car accident would have more reasonable expectations before they file a lawsuit,” said Bramnick (R-Union). “Getting hurt in a car crash is stressful enough. Having access to necessary information will help speed up the legal process.”

The bill (A3444) would require auto insurers to produce written documentation of policy limits within 30 days of the request by an attorney representing clients involved in car accidents.

The Senate passed a companion bill (S1558) in January.
