TRENTON, N.J. – Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick issued the following statement on the death of former Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell:
“America lost a trailblazing public servant today. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell was a great man who earned considerable respect for his decades of leadership and service to this country. I join those mourning his loss and send my deepest condolences to those who loved and knew him best,” Bramnick (R-Union) said.
The four-star general died Monday following complications due to Covid-19. Powell culminated a distinguished military career as national security adviser to then-President Ronald Reagan and as the 12th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. As secretary of state, he oversaw U.S. diplomacy in the aftermath of the Sep. 11 attacks under former President George W. Bush.
