Auto insurers required to disclose policy limits to attorneys under new law

Jon Bramnick

TRENTON, N.J. – Gov. Phil Murphy signed Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick’s legislation requiring automobile insurers to disclose policy limits upon request by an attorney.

“Victims in the state should understand early on that their compensation may be limited. Under this new law, anyone injured in a car accident will have more reasonable expectations before they file a lawsuit,” said Bramnick (R-Union). “Having access to pertinent information earlier helps speed up the legal process for those experiencing an already very stressful situation.”

The bill (A3444/S1588) requires auto insurers to produce written documentation of policy limits within 30 days of the request by an attorney representing clients involved in car accidents.
