TRENTON, N.J. – All twenty-eight members of the state Assembly Republican Caucus issued a joint statement calling out Gov. Phil Murphy for his “all protests are not equal” policy. Murphy violated his own order limiting public outdoor gatherings to no more than 25 persons by attending two protests Sunday, while others were charged for the same actions in recent days.
“The governor’s problem is the unequal application of the law and a double standard. He has refused to hold himself accountable to the very rules he set and expects the general public to obey, but is then surprised when people call him out when he violates those rules. Meanwhile, as recently as last weekend, multiple peaceful protesters have been cited by state or local police since his stay at home order went into effect back in March.
“It is nothing short of complete hypocrisy to protest for equal protection under the law, but then as governor decide that people who hold views different from him are not equally protected.”
