A devoted Baptist, Simonsen says he considers himself a Frederick Douglass Republican who believes every individual deserves to be treated fairly and equally in justice. He is a person who sees problems and wants to go do something about it.

Simonsen is a former teacher, current athletic director of Lower Cape May Regional School District, singer/songwriter and family man who appreciates where he grew up.

Simonsen’s involvement in his community led to becoming mayor of Lower Township, overseeing consecutive years of without property tax increases. He was elected last year to represent Cape May and parts of Atlantic and Cumberland counties in the 1st legislative district.

Next week, Assembly Republicans plan to release a mini biography about Monmouth Assemblyman Gerry Scharfenberger.
