An assemblyman since 2009, DiMaio is recognized for his ability to build bridges between Republicans and Democrats while holding to his conservative principles of low taxes, individual liberty and small government. He was elected by his colleagues in November 2021 to be the assembly minority leader – the highest leadership position in the Republican conference – after earning their trust as budget officer and co-conference leader successively the past four years.
